"I ride the Tour de Cure for my little brother. Ian was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at only one year old and it completely altered the path of his life, from childhood obstacles to dictating his career choices. I am consistently impressed by how well he has handled this disease for more than 20 years, but it does require constant management and leads to several other severe health concerns.
Over the years, Ian has benefited from many advancements in the care of diabetes thanks to the support of events like the Tour de Cure that provide much-needed research funding. The work the American Diabetes Association is doing now to provide research support and advocacy for affordable insulin is extremely important.
My favorite program is the summer camp they provide for children with diabetes. As a kid with diabetes, they don't often have the chance to act like a normal kid and leave home overnight. This program gives children the opportunity to go away from home for a week and have fun with other kids that have diabetes, all with a knowledgeable staff and medical support that makes parents feel comfortable.
I am very grateful not only to the Primal Tour de Cure team for all of the money we've managed to raise over the years, but also the support and donations that Primal as a company has directly contributed to the American Diabetes Association. This support means more support for my brother and everybody else living with diabetes, and hopefully, one day a cure."
